Release date
November 19, 2026 is the only launch date Rockstar has confirmed, and it has been reaffirmed several times when pre-orders opened in June and again around the August gameplay reveal. Take-Two has also built it into its financial guidance, forecasting $8 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings for its 2027 fiscal year on the strength of the launch.

Price and editions
Two editions have been confirmed:
Standard Edition — $79.99 / £69.99
Ultimate Edition — $99.99 / £89.99, which adds bonus in-game content. Some coverage reports it includes two exclusive side missions; Rockstar’s full breakdown of the Ultimate contents should be checked on the official store listing.
No Collector’s or Special Edition has been announced.
Pre-order bonus: buying either edition before launch includes the Vintage Vice City Pack — a classic 1955 Vapid Stanier sedan with a garage near Ocean Beach, retro outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a throwback weapon pattern. You can upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later.
Platforms and what about PC?
GTA VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
There is no PC version announced. Rockstar has not confirmed one or given a date. Historically, GTA V reached PC well after its console release, which is why most analysts expect a PC version eventually but that is expectation, not announcement. It is also not confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 or last-generation consoles.
Setting: Vice City and Leonida
The game returns to Vice City, the series’ Miami-inspired city, last visited in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This time it sits within Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida.
Leonida covers far more than the city: beaches, highways, rural roads, swamps, the Keys, industrial zones, wealthy neighbourhoods and waterways. Locations shown so far include the Bayside district and a rooftop bar called Effluvia.
The story and characters
The game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple in the mould of Bonnie and Clyde. Lucia is the first female lead protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game.
Players can switch between the two, as with GTA V‘s three-lead structure. The August presentation made clear that their relationship is the centre of the story.
Rockstar has not officially confirmed the voice cast. Names circulating online are unconfirmed.
What the August gameplay reveal showed
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, reaching YouTube about six hours later. It runs roughly 26 minutes and was captured on PlayStation 5.
It showed:
- Robberies, car theft and police chases, with revised cover-based gunplay
- Character switching between Jason and Lucia
- Phones and social media playing a much larger role than in GTA V, including livestream-style sequences
- Everyday life safehouses, wardrobes, television with in-game channels and adverts, interactions with animals
- Activities including mini golf, pool, kayaking, scuba diving, parachuting, exercise and a zoo
- Physical change over time diet, exercise and sleep visibly affect how Jason and Lucia look
What it did not cover: online multiplayer, progression systems, businesses, monetisation, or cross-platform play. Details on GTA Online for GTA VI have not been announced.

The soundtrack
Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album on September 17, 2026 34 original tracks releasing alongside the game on November 19. Six songs are streaming now, from artists including Travis Scott, Future, Metro Boomin, PinkPantheress, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards.

Why the wait has been so long
GTA VI arrives more than thirteen years after Grand Theft Auto V, which launched in 2013 and has sold more than 190 million copies, making it the second best-selling video game ever behind only Minecraft. That commercial weight is why the release date carries so much attention and why Take-Two ties its financial forecasts directly to it.
